OYT North’s Career Development Programme is structured over two years to bring together the necessary skills, experience and qualifications for participants to embark on a career in the maritime industry.
Previous graduates have moved into successful careers within Sail Training and a range of other maritime organisations or have used their experience as an alternative means of entry to college or university.
This is a very practical programme run on small commercial vessels – both sail and power - in multiple sailing areas. On and off the job training is provided leading to RYA Qualifications and the development of practical skills in sailing, youthwork and vessel maintenance.
OYT North has operated as an independent educational charity for 18 years and works with young people from all backgrounds offering them the opportunity for personal development through Adventure under Sail.
Participation is on a voluntary basis with food and accommodation provided while on-board and during winter refits. Financial assistance will be given with travel costs to and from the vessel. The equivalent value is estimated at £10k along with less tangible benefits such as employability, experience, employment references and opportunities for networking.
The successful applicant will be required to obtain an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and an ENG 1 medical.
